I admit to being more susceptible to Triumph restoration stories these days, but this one is especially nice. What a beautiful TR3 Dennis Morrison has. The story in the Wakefield Wicked Local starts out this way…

Dennis Morrison of Wakefield developed a passion for British Triumph sports cars in high school, and they have been a part of his life ever since. While working at Metcalf & Eddy in Wakefield as the chief financial officer, a co-worker helped make his retirement dream come true. He was given a 1960 Triumph TR3A two years ago that was garaged for about 25 years in Concord. The beat-up car that endured New England winters in a garage that was partially opened became a first place winner last week at the Larz Anderson Auto Museum in Brookline.

Read the complete story in “Victory for a Triumph: Classic restored car receives accolades“.

One man… stripped of everything he owns and challenged to just buy British…

Join award-winning television comedian Dom Joly on an epic road trip around Britain in an attempt to fill his house from top to bottom with British-made products in the brand new series Made In Britain.

As part of this unique experiment, Dom will have his family home turned upside down and stripped of everything he owns that’s not made in the UK. He’s then challenged to go on a remarkable shopping trip, travelling the length and breadth of the country to try and replace all his foreign goods with British-made products.

Before the inspectors arrive, Dom’s quaint country cottage in the Cotswolds is a safe haven for foreign merchandise: the Italian coffee machine, a television manufactured in Japan and pants made in Taiwan. In no time at all the Joly family home isn’t looking quite so jolly anymore. In their bid to find out what’s British and what’s not, the experts have banished two thirds of everything they’ve looked at including his bed, laptop and, controversially, his wife’s cosmetics, and Dom is left with little more than his Savile Row suit, a pair of muddy Wellington boots and a lengthy shopping list for his trip.

Each episode of Made In Britain will see him tackling a different room in his house in a bid to replenish its contents with British-only goods and restore normality at home. Dom’s travels take him to Europe’s oldest waterbed company (turns out us Brits invented waterbeds!); a lava lamp factory in Poole where the psychedelic favourite was invented in a shed and bath products company, Lush, which is one of Britain’s global success stories.

Dom’s journey takes him to the heart of British eccentricity and ingenuity as he meets the quirky, colourful and charismatic characters who just won’t give up making products they believe in, all the while discovering what it really takes to be made in Britain.

The legendary Ford GT super car has been given a makeover and incredible power boost by a British company to form the Avro 720 Mirage limited edition.

Brooklands based Avro Motor Cars has teamed up with Ford engine experts Roush to produce just 10 Avro 720 Mirage – with a top speed in excess of 220mph.

To achieve this staggering performance Roush has taken out the standard supercharger and fitted the Avro 720 Mirage with a larger, polished version.

The supercharger, a new exhaust system and performance engine parts give the 5.4-litre V8 a colossal 720bhp and 627lb/ft of pulling power – 170bhp more than the standard Ford GT.

And because of the extra power and deactivation of the standard car’s speed limiter, Avro claims the 720 Mirage will sail past 220mph.

On the outside the Avro 720 Mirage shouts about its performance with a bright orange paint job, contrasting against black detailing and wheels.

Other exterior changes include the removal of the rear bumper, which Avro claims will save weight, and there are exclusive side decals denoting the model of this exclusive car.

Because of the extra power, the car’s suspension has received attention, with the wheels now 5mm wider apart than standard, for greater stability and grip. The suspension has also been lowered.

The Avro 720 Mirage also has powerful race-inspired brakes from British manufacturer AP.

This is not the first Avro-tuned Ford GT – the company also created ten Roush 600RE special editions in 2007, which had 600bhp and cost £140,000.
